Cricket came out strong, in massive representation, lending a helping-hand on the Cricket Spring Group Volunteer Day at MedShare Atlanta during 2016 National Volunteer week.
MedShare is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare and the environment through the efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies from hospitals, distributors and manufacturer, and redistributes the supplies and equipment to underserved healthcare facilities across the globe.
As a result of various federal regulations, hospitals across the country are required to discard nearly 6 million tons of surplus medical supplies and equipment every year. MedShare recovers the surplus items through partnerships with hospitals, manufacturers and distributors in various metropolitan areas across the county to set up recovery programs, ultimately protecting the environment and improving healthcare of millions of economically disadvantaged countries around the world.
Armed with 65 volunteers, in 2.5 hours, Cricket employees produced amazing stats:
- We packed 513 boxes of medical supplies and syringes
- We saved 5,810 pounds of these items from going into landfill
- These supplies will fill half of a container that will be part of MedShare’s April 2016 shipments which will arrive by July to save lives in the following countries:
- Cameroon
- Ethiopia
- Haiti
- Mauritania
- Nigeria
- Tonga
