Rated 3 out of 5 by from 1.5 yrs later... It was a great phone when I bought it but these phones all have a honeymoon phase. The battery life is pathetic. The internal memory is too small. The camera is pretty nice. The screen and speaker 5/5! The touch response? Hit and miss. Note: this phone loves to run background apps without permission and eat data. Learn how to use it. I am constantly having to clean the junk out of this phone (eg. Cache). I have gotten a ton of good mileage out of this phone. I was impressed by the RAM and octacore processor. But it has a honeymoon phase like I said. I bought mine at $99 and I felt it was a bargain. Definitely worth $40! The VR glasses are cheap and cumbersome. But fun for a day or two...maybe a week

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Phone, do not buy! I bought this phone and it was a bad decision. The photos it takes are terrible (my LG Stylo 1 takes 10X better pictures!) and the battery lasts less than half a day! (Tip: carry your charger with you AT ALL TIMES!) The only decent things about this phone is that the audio is surprisingly loud and the screen resolution is actually the best thing about the phone. I used this phone for 3 days before I went back to using my LG Stylo 1, the Alcatel just sits in my closet as a backup phone or when I occasionally want to use my VR headset. I would not recommend this phone!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I hate this phone!!! my husband bought this for me because he thought i would use the goggles to play games.... i dont.. the screen is constantly freezing, it constantly says that i dont have a sim card and it can never recognize my memory card. the phone has to be charged at least 5 times a day or it will die. the stupid this is constantly restarting itself when im in the middle of doing something, and when i comes back on all the apps that were on my screens are gone and I have to put them back and then when I do it says the app isn't on my phone so I'm constantly re-downloading them

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You better not crack the screen What you are reading in all the reviews are true...the battery life is horrible. It is easily the worst phone I've owned when it comes to that aspect. Also, the VR is a joke and you will end up just pulling your hair out the first time you try using it and never touch it again. But to me the worst thing about this phone is its durability. If you get even the most minor of cracks in the screen it will disable the entire touch screen. I've owned two Idol 3's and an Idol 4 and they all did the same thing. I've never seen a phone where it is totally useless just from one crack. It's a great phone for the price and works really well but with the battery issue and the fact it can be disabled with such minor damage I'd suggest staying away from it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a Happy Customer I got this phone 3 weeks ago and I am very disappointed with my purchase. I have been a loyal Cricket Customer for years and usually love their phones, but this one has left me very upset that I purchased it! I originally had the Idol 3 which I loved until it broke and had to get this one. It's slow, the browser crashes all the time, it lags all the time, the battery life is very weak and I am just very disappointed that I can't change this phone for the Idol 3. Not worth the purchase, the older model is much better and much more reliable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Camera Bold colors I received this phone for X-mas 2016 and it was a huge upgrade from what I had. The VR was crazy cool in the beginning (kids loved it too)...but the newness of that quickly faded. The battery was the first to go south for me. I would literally go from 100% at 6am to like 40% within two hours. Then I had little to no service at home, outside, at work, on the train. It was a real struggle. I just returned this under warranty for the 3rd time, I hope that when I receive another it will work fine. They say 3 times the charm. Stay tuned

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb phone with bad battery I've been with Cricket for over 4 years with multiple devices including the Idol 3. While the Idol 3 was a great phone with nice sound and good battery performance, it had a sucky processor that tainted the near perfection of of its overall offering. This next version, the Idol 4 takes up from where the 3 left off, and does some things better, but one major flaw is the bad battery performance. The Idol 4 steps up its speakers by giving a bit of increase in volume and an even more noticeable quality boost by strengthening the sounds of the mids and lows, which really shows when subtle low basslines and midriff melodies stand out very audibly and in perfect sync with the rest of the music the way it should sound. This phone sounds like a mini version of a well arranged home audio or car stereo system, it's that good! Some people won't like the decrease in screen size, but many will appreciate the greater ease of using this phone one-handed. The processor functions better with significantly less lag and more smoothness when doing operations that require a lot of processing power. The design of this phone is so darn sleek and slick I swear it looks better than 95% of other phones out there! The only downside to this phone is the bad battery, which drains juice as if it has a voltage leak. You can literally sit and watch the battery percentage drain almost by the minute, which can be very inconvenient. Fortunately, there are options of external chargers, but they come at additional cost, less convenience, and a troublesome attachment you shouldnt have to put up with. Another issue is the meager 16gb device storage, which can be beefed up a ton with the addition of a micro sd card. All in all this is one heck of a device for the price and one of the best smartphone designs I have seen!!! The design of this phone beats the iPhone by miles! The camera is above average but nothing special. This phone's speakers are louder than HTC's M series of phones and has much better sound quality than ZTE Axon, Sony, and Huawei's P6. Highly recommended! Just keep in mind and be prepared for the not-so-good battery. The Alcatel Idol series is turning out to be the main line of smartphones for those who love and can count on great media sound, superb design, and reliable functionality from their phones at a fair or budget price!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hate this phone I bought this phone a few months ago, mainly for the camera. I'd read the reviews about short battery life but I had no idea it was *THIS* bad. I literally have to charge it over night, then again while it's at work, then again overnight. On the weekends, when I use it more, I have to charge it 3 times a day. Also, it comes with so much built in ads that I still haven't figured out how to get rid of them. I get adds on my screen before I swipe to put in my pin. Also, several of my apps (youtube, baconreader, facebook) crash daily and cause my phone to reboot. On top of all of this, the camera SUCKS! The flash won't engage if you've zoomed at all, and if at low light (indoor with lamps) the pics are blurry and grainy. worst 200 bucks I've ever spent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective Cricket Devices In less than 2 weeks I am on my third device. The first (ordered online) and the third (exchanged for the 2nd, in store) both have the same defect, the phone automatically goes to sleep after 5 seconds ALL THE TIME (no, changing the settings to NEVER doesnt work). Another defect with both the first and 3rd device is that I cannot use my phone unless I use the speakerphone mode. I cant hear anyone and noone can hear me when I use the phone (unless it is on speaker). The second of the three devices had the wrong time on the main screen and could not be changed. When I pulled down to view settings the time was right. The phone would freeze in the middle of typing a text and even froze up completely (thankfully I was already on my way BACK to the store with my exchange in hand).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Happy I bought this phone the first of this month. By the time I got the phone and got it all set up. It does have easy to use features. My problem with this phone is,: I have had this phone for 2 weeks and now I have to get another phone.:You see What I thought I was ordering off the Cricket website and was led to believe a new phone has turned out to be a used phone and is a defected phone. In order to make a call. talk on the phone ypu have to have it on Speaker. If you don't have it on speaker the person on the other line can not hear a word you saying, am now out the money I put out to buy this phone. It is hard for a person like myself to have to buy another phone. I live on a small disability income.. I bet this review will never reach the reviews of this phone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible My Idol 3 went total black 3 months ago. Nothing could be done no warning it was going belly up or nothing. Lost important texts cause of that. Purchased the Idol 4 as an upgrade, goggles didn't matter to me, and I couldn't afford many of the other phones. Three months in with Idol 4 and am totally disappointed. Within the last couple weeks it's totally died when I had offer 59% battery life, the camera now takes blurry pics and bounces me out constantly, the battery uses 5% battery on a less than 2 minute call, the phone is heating up not only when I actually use it to talk to someone but when it's charging. Could actually used it as a hand warmer. Very disappointed. Sound quality is ok but turn it up to lots and it gets distorted. With 3 months ownership I shouldn't be having issues like this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be Warned Reboot Issues I have now had this phone for about 4 months. The phone has a known issue that you will fine if you google the phone. The phone reboots on charge, or randomly. In some cases you have to do a hard reboot to get the phone online. When it is working, the phone is great, and the speakers are great as well. The rebooting issues are causing me to seek out a new phone. They have gotten worse as time goes on. Again, this appears to be a known problem with this and the previous models in this line.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Vr broken The vr feature provided by the built in app does not work, at all. There is no way to download apps through it, nor does it work with any vr content. What the vr app does do is pop up and and prevent proper functionality of Google cardboard and vr enabled apps. I have with luck and numerous tries managed to get vr apps to work. The thing is that the headset, which does not have a strap nor does it properly fit the phone, sends a signal to the phone to disrupt whatever app is open.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of trash wrapped in deception Bought it 6 days ago and it's given me more problems than all the other phones I've had in the last two years. Terrible battery and terrible processors. It freezes like crazy. It discharges incredibly fast even without use. Data speeds incredibly slow in places I know cricket service is good. Heats up also without use at times. Not worth buying. Not to mention the vr store doesn't work and vr games through play store aren't compatible with controls on packed goggles. Don't buy, ever.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great speakers and camera I've bought this phone 5 months ago. Camera and speakers are great reason I rated a 3. It's glitchy, battery drains extremely fast, it freezes, now my wifi won't connect. I've never used the VR glasses, even typing this message it's lagging. I don't have many apps, nor many pictures I have to have the boost and clean it several times a day. I will not recommend this cell unless your only using it for music speakers and camera. Sales rep in the store said this was a great phone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I HATE THIS PHONE SO MUCH PLEASE DON'T BUY IT!!!!! I have had this phone for a little over 5 months. When I first got it I had to send it back and get a new one because the AUX was not working. Now it doesn't turn on sometimes. If you dont like to charge your phone 2 times a day don't get this phone. I still have problem with it like when you want to connect to anything bluetooth you have to restart the phone. It is not worth the VR. I loved the Idol 3 sooo much better. PLEASE I AM TRYING TO SAVE YOUR MONEY AND MIND!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Somehow worse than my old motorola g I bought this phone last December, I first tried online and received a non-working phone, I tried to return it at a cricket store but cricket doesn't let you turn in online orders in store, so I had to buy another phone at the cricket store and ship the defective phone back. Cricket basically made me choose between having $400 tied up in cellphone purchases or I had to wait for a phone to ship back and them to send me a replacement. The phone worked well for a day or two then all sorts of apps began quitting and it seemed to be way slower than my previous phone. Sometimes I have to do a hard reset 3-4 times in a row just to get any feature to respond including making an actual phone call. The phone is just a total pain now after 6 months. Literally the only thing good about this phone is that it has a pretty good camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the Price It's weird to see so much negative feedback with this phone, I haven't had any problems with mine. The speakers on this phone are amazing! It has an SD slot, and a headphone jack. The only down side is it doesnt have the greatest camera, but hey, its a $50 phone I cant complain. I got a Wallet phone case for mine I highly recommend getting a case. I haven't had any problems with internet or my apps, so maybe that was a problem in the past that they fixed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Internet problems? I bought this phone around when it first came out and for some reason it cuts off the wifi when i try to use it. Wifi and mobile internet is super slow and i always have full bars i had to switch back to my idol 3. The phone has a small screen (Maybe because ive always had a bigger phone) but it is very beautiful. The phone other wise is really fast with files and has a great camera :).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just dont At first I was really excited when I bought this phone but one thing I noticed right off the bat was that it over heats real quick. The emojis don't work on other people's phones, and at one point it runs slow. Also, it says it has a lot of storage but most of it is used up by apps that you cant uninstall because they're part of the phone. And the VR glasses you need to hold yourself because the headband is sold separately.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible device STAY AWAY Where do I start... This phone has horrible battery life if you use your phone for anything other than making phone calls expect to have 40 50% to 3 hours in your day. Probably worse battery life I've seen out of all these phones. It's extremely laggy and slow and 9 out of 10 times apps crash on you. I could go on and on about how much of a piece of junk this phone is. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from anything Alcatel makes

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good phone and good VR goggles I was all amped up when this phone came out but like a year or two later after I gotten it the phone is starting to act up meaning it pauses the music and videos and the keyboard disappers and it switches to emojis, the phone erased all the photos and videos I've taken from the memory including on my 32 MB SD card that I've gotten it for only twice, I've only used the VR headset only couple times to fear it might drain the battery

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Blah So I was told that this phone was great. Well battery life is okay, but I can't open files through this phone which really makes me! I cant even get different apps to help download files. I cant do stuff like I would do with my other android phones. The price for the phone was just okay. I just expected better for what I paid for and what I have heard. Graphics are great and what not, but there needs to be more than graphics.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the best I bought this phone thinking a phone that does virtual reality would be awesome. Well the v.r. was pretty cool. But the phone is sooner slow and laggy. I put a lock screen on my phone and wanted to take it off. I guess this phone has a glitch to where once you turn the lock screen on you can't turn it off. Talking on the phone it cuts in and out all the time. Not impressed with this phone looking to get a new one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst decision of my life Didn't have phone I wanted so got this thing. Whole thing mess after a couple months, l, had to reset & lost couple months of data. Always freezes, randomly closes applications, won't open or keep open websites. Won't register SD card that's in the phone when I hook up to computer so I can't get any data off of it, have to back up everything onto Google. Also randomly says the wrong time. In sum, tons of fun!
