Idol 5 is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the money I've had this phone now for two weeks. The call clarity is excellent as is the reception, I'm in a small country town where many phones have trouble. There's more bloatware than I would like but not as much as some companies like VM and HTC stick customers with. The screen size is good as is the speed. The only software problem I've encountered is that the phone will not run a live wallpaper for more than 10 or 15 minutes without the wallpaper app crashing. No setting changes will fix the problem. Not a big deal by any means. There seem to be no plans to upgrade the Android version, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely IS an upgrade from the Idol 4. As stated in my review title. The upgrade is very noticeable, in gaming performance and video playback. Charging speed is accurate and does charge fast, but, ensure you possess a Quick Charge 3.0 Charger or C-type to have the most effective charging speed. I love this phone much more than its previous predecessor. It's great to say it was definitely worth it. To those who wish to purchase this, I say go for it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrific phone for the price. This replaced an Alcatel One Touch that fell out of my pocket and broke. This one comes with the usual Google spyware that comes at you like an octopus determined to wrap all eight tentacles tightly around you, the victim. It is a continuing battle to force stop and disable apps that slow down the device's performance. I did delete chrome and replace it with a different browser, Brave. After all that, the phone works like a race car when downloading websites and email. Brave in particular is fast and functional, faster than the default browsers in the new Samsung and iPhones. This is probably because those phones have to report all activity by their owners back to headquarters, and that does slow them down. The screen is gorgeous, and the feel of the metal case is impressive. I have to use other smart phones for work, but this configured as above is my choice for my personal phone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AWFUL I switched from Sprint to Cricket less than a month ago. After activating my new phone, I realized I don't have service in my home. Cricket has no service booster available, and my phone doesn't have WiFi calling (I thought every phone had it.) I went to the Cricket store to see if I could downgrade my phone to one with WiFi calling so I could use it at home, but the customer service rep told me the best option would be to sell the BRAND NEW phone and switch services. What a terrible experience...very disappointed. What's even worse is that I switched my parents over to Cricket also, and they have the same issue. Cricket will be losing 3 customers. Ridiculous.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good speakers and screen quality I got this the first release day from a Cricket store and Archie made my purchase easy and transferred my number. The 32gb of internal storage is finally enough to bother about and along with my 64gb S/D card set as primary storage for the camera it is sufficient. Google photos is now offering free cloud storage for overages. The speakers are very clear and when used with VLC free player and it's equalizer, they're very loud. The screen has just enough bezel so you can hold it without affecting the display with a touch. The build is very solid and the back does NOT attract fingerprints. The Pump Express charging is very fast and the battery lasts 6-7 hours of very heavy use IE Netflix blasting, on full brightness, with 10-20% left over. Be careful with the advanced settings, IE holding power and volume down buttons from Off, because what used to clear cache now resets the whole internal storage. OOPS! Call quality is excellent as is LTE coverage. Finding a case has been trouble as is finding a screen protector (in a Cricket store anyway), but at this price with the quality build and Gorilla Glass 3, I may just go naked. Any phone with a non removable battery will need replacement every 2 years anyway from my limited experience. The forward facing speakers and 2.3ghz processor with 32gb storage sold me. The 2gb ram seemed low but it handles everything due to Nougat being a better OS. Give it a go if you want a solid mid range phone. Shelling out 4-5 times the money seemed silly and Iphone is still just mocking Android features (all be it with a better camera). Why be limited to Apples expensive "store" and fragile handsets? The Idol 5 does everything I ask without a hitch it looks and sounds great doing it. No fingerprint or face unlock but you can set it to a PIN or pattern when you are 50yards from home and or other preset locations, so security is no worry. At under $200 you can't go wrong, even if your just curious about Cricket service. Enjoy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this because of the positive reviews Ok so I am not rich so I cant just go out and be a sheep to buy an iphone so I had to rread a lot of reviews online and the professional reviewers gave it a great review so i bought this one because it also looks great. Oh and the battery lasts more than a day so i don’t know what the other reviewers are saying

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good phone overall The Idol 3 and 5 will not transfer using WiFi direct or Android beam. Otherwise tap-n-pay and scan-n-go at Sam's club work. Some bloat software can't be disabled. I work the other phone features everyday without issues. It's fast and doesn't break the bank to replace.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just switched from my Idol 3 to the Idol 5 I haven't had the Idol but only a few days now, and never had the Idol 4. So far not a bad phone with some great features, but I feel like I downgraded from the Idol, I feel like they dropped the ball a little compared to the Idol 3 which I absolutely loved, it had a fuller thinner body and screen with very crisp looking sleek looking screen fonts pics, more detailed looking with better colors, and was even more disappointed to find out the Idol 5 (while still sounding good) doesn't have JBL speakers (if it does it's not advertised) and doesn't get as loud as the Idol 3, also probably not a noticeable difference but went backwards in megapixels, from a 13 mp cam to a 12mp :/ . Going to try to change the factory fonts and colors on this Idol 5 because its hard for me to deal with, it looks kinda like a grade school level colored screen. Will see as have had longer, please make another Idol phone like the 3 with updates of course

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointing! This model is a HUGE setback from the idol3 for those who had it. Has lots of problems with the external SD card, microphone problem - people can't hear you clearly on the other side of the conversation - broken all the time. Even though it's octa-core - performance is relatively poor when compared with other octa-core devices. STAY AWAY FROM IT

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving my new smartphone This is my first smartphone and it seems to work fine. I had an issue with charging it, but finally figured out the plug was kinda loose. Once I solved that, it charges from 25% to 100% in about an hour! Since I'm new, it would have been nice to have a beginner's guide enclosed with the phone for basic stuff. I finally went to utube and found pictorials to get me started. The phone has become very easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fairly fast phone. Not bad for pre-pay. Has all the features of a more expensive phone BUT lacks wireless charging. If it had this it would get 5 stars. There is one, big problem. Tried clearing cache/data on various services. Playstore will do updates for a day or so but then completely stop stuck at "downloading". Only way to fix is full factory reset! What gives?? APKPure updates about half the apps as an alternative or you have to sideload to get around. Please fix Alcatel/Google/Android!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Multiple pains in my butts, but also fast. *Has a charger that looks like the micro USB everyone uses now, but it's just not the same. The "U" in "USB" means "universal," not unique. I don't understand. *Model 6060c, which many sources indicate is the Idol 5S. Had a hard time downloading usable USB drivers so I could connect to a PC. How is that not standard on every phone? *NO ONE IS IMPRESSED WITH BLOATWARE. *Apps crash. I could keep them open on my last 8GB while using another app, but when I check my texts, I have to reload my game again. *Strange touch responsiveness, usually while charging. Using "Show Touches" setting, I found touching very specific spots would trigger 2-4 touches around them. Maybe the sensors are screwed up by high device temperature? *Settings menu usability is problematic. Can't find RAM details or how to delete duplicate songs. *Can't figure out why my bluetooth speaker only plays song data for one speaker (makes songs sound incomplete with missing instruments, vocals, etc.) Was not so on my last phone. *Want to root, but looks like I'm gonna need to use the warranty. On the positive side, it charges and loads my game fast. Specs are nice for the price.

No complaints.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very glitchy I bought this phone a couple months ago and it seems to just get worse as time goes on. The purchase was a little sketchy because the phone model is special to Cricket, so cases and screen covers don't fit right. Unfortunately, Cricket only has a 7-day return policy, which is when the issues started to arise; 7 days is not nearly enough time to decide if any phone will work in the first place. I will list some the issues I've had with the phone. When talking to people on the phone, I can hear them perfectly fine; however, everyone complains about distortion from my end even if I'm somewhere with good reception. Randomly, generally when listening to podcasts, audio will start to echo and lag only when the screen is off. Sometimes settings will reset or not become usable such as the zoom on the camera; this is a new issue. These are some off the top of my head. Maybe I would have bought the warranty, but Cricket's warranty was sketchy; the advertisement said the warranty covers electrical or mechanical malfunctions, but inside the warranty it specifically says they are not covered. I've been happy with Cricket as a service provider, but I'm not planning on buying a phone from them again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from On/off would be great for left-handers It takes two hands to turn on and off for a right-handed person. No one (either at the store or via the 800 #) could figure out how to transfer my contact list en masse. I had to do it one-at-a-time. How tedious! Not very user-friendly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks like the specs are down graded? I have had the three for over two years and other than the battery not lasting anymore I have no complaints. Looking at the specs to the 3, 4, and 5 I would have to say Alcatel blew it on the 5 big and will not be getting it when I upgrade. Hopefully the 6 is a lot better?
