If you enjoy streaming videos but want to save data, learn about Cricket’s Stream More option.
Stream More is a Cricket service setting on your phone to help save data when streaming video content. Certain high-definition video content will stream at standard definition quality when this setting is on (about 480p, or similar to viewing a DVD).
The Stream More service is available to every Cricket customer with a data plan.
There's no additional cost to use Stream More.
For most customers, including those with Unlimited + 15 GB Mobile Hotspot and Unlimited plans, Cricket will turn Stream More on for you when you activate service. It's free, and customers have the option to turn it off for select plans. For more information visit cricketwireless.com/mobilebroadband.
To turn Stream More on or off in the myCricket App, log in, then tap the gear icon in the top right corner to view Account Settings. If you have an account with multiple lines, select a line. Under Line Settings & Stream More, tap Stream More. Then switch the toggle On or Off, depending on your preference.
The selection change will take effect in near real-time.
The amount of data used to watch video on your smartphone will vary, with one important factor being video resolution. A typical 90-minute HD movie uses 1.25-2.5GB of data. With Stream More on, watching the same movie in SD uses no more than 1GB. That's saving between 250MB and 1.5GB. HD is excellent for viewing TV at home but when you stream on a smartphone, SD quality looks great and uses less data. This lets you surf more, play harder, and enjoy more of what you love on your smartphone.
No. Stream More will not apply to content it can't identify as video. Streaming and video resolution can be affected by other factors as well. These factors include:
- Resolution you usually watch in
- App settings
- Stream source
- Network traffic, etc.
