The Cricket Celebration Bowl weekend returned to our hometown of Atlanta with attendees experiencing the inaugural Band of the Year followed by the highly anticipated game between Howard University (HU) Bison and Florida A&M University (FAMU) Rattlers. North Carolina A&T University and Florida Memorial University took home trophies for best band in their division, while FAMU left Mercedes-Benz Stadium with their first Celebration Bowl win.Among the 41,108 attendees of the Historically Black College & University (HBCU) football national championship, there were some famous faces in attendance such as Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris and actor Lance Gross representing their alma mater HU and NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.
Rashan Ali
Proud FAMU Rattler, Rashan Ali filmed a live episode of her Cricket sponsored The Cool Soror Podcast. She sat down with NFL Hall of Famer Edgerrin James to talk about his storied career, as well as his son who plays running back for Howard University. Rashan also connected with current Howard University student and current cast member of the Starz hit series “BMF,” Laila Pruitt. The final installment of the podcast series is scheduled to go live just before the new year.
Cricket HBCU Campus Ambassadors
Our HBCU Campus Ambassadors participated in the weekend’s festivities as well. Donned in their school’s paraphernalia, they participated in the half time games. Mister Howard University and Cricket Wireless HBCU Campus Ambassador Mahlon W. took several of his Bison classmates to the Boys & Girls Club he grew up in to volunteer at their End of Year holiday party. That full circle moment is something to smile about!
