Cricket kicked off August with an action-packed first weekend. We sponsored the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show, participated in the Be A STAR (Show Tolerance And Respect) Rally and hosted an in-store WWE Superstar meet and greet. WWE Superstars and Cricket Brand Ambassadors, Bianca Belair, The Miz, and Drew McIntyre also created buzz on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter (X) leaning into fun social trends ahead of the main event on Saturday. We have the exclusive recap of the weekend highlights, including inviting the Baker Banter Family to help us spread smiles.
Be A STAR Rally
Starting the weekend off strong on Thursday, August 3, Cricket joined Boys & Girls Clubs of America, National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation, Special Olympics, and local Detroit-based Community Champions to host the WWE Community Day event. The event was filled with fun interactive activities centered around mental health and anti-bullying. Three hundred children attended; each child received a Back-to-School backpack filled will school supplies and a t-shirt from #CricketNation. WWE® Superstars Cody Rhodes, Bianca Belair, Montez Ford, Ricochet, Titus O’Neil, Otis, Chad Gable, Sarah Schreiber, and Maxxine Dupri made guest appearances at the event. Our beloved character Rose, posed for selfies at the Fan Zone trailer as well. Senior Marketing Manager, Jeanne Kennedy, presented a $5,000 donation to Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, which they will use towards the football program. We are pleased to continue our collaboration with WWE to help the next generation learn how to “Show Tolerance And Respect” to others while building happy, meaningful connections.
In-Store Meet & Greet
On Saturday, August 5, Cricket began the day’s festivities bright and early. We hosted an energetic WWE Superstar in-store meet and greet. Cricket had a record-breaking attendance for the year, with nearly 900 eager fans who wrapped the building waiting to meet their favorite Superstars, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The meet and greet featured opportunities to win tickets to the show, exciting prizes, and capture memorable moments with autographs and photo-ops from the WWE Superstars.
Cut-A-Promo
SummerSlam weekend was also the perfect time to debut our Cut-A-Promo activation outside of Ford Field during the Kickoff Show. Fans had the opportunity to cut a promo impersonating one of our four Cricket Brand Ambassadors aka WWE Superstars and share their videos on social.
WWE SummerSlam
Later that Saturday, Cricket kept the energy pumping at SummerSlam. Fans came together to cheer on their favorite Superstars at Ford Field. In addition, we invited our favorite influencer and WWE’s number one fan, Derek Baker and his #BakerBanter crew to join in on the electrifying event. Derek spread smiles for miles and connected with his fans creating unforgettable moments while using our Cricket Selfie Cam. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off August. This year’s SummerSlam broke a record for the most viewed SummerSlam event in 35 years with over 230 million views. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our customers alongside WWE and their community partners. Check out the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show presented by Cricket, here.
Breaking records and spreading smiles for miles add up to a monumental weekend. Stay tuned to see how we continue to engage with the communities we serve throughout the rest of the year!
